Green Snoqualmie is partnering with the Snoqualmie Valley YMCA to restore the Stillwater Bog, a natural preserve in the heart of Snoqualmie Ridge. Volunteers are invited to participate at one or more fun and educational summer restoration events. All ages are welcome.
Each event meets at the Snoqualmie Valley YMCA, 35018 Ridge St. SE.
- Saturday, May 26, noon-3 pm
- Saturday, June 23, noon-3 pm
- Saturday, August 18, noon-3 pm
The Stillwater Bog and its surrounding forest provide an oasis of old conifers and rare native species; however, this natural gem is at risk from non-native weeds such as Himalayan blackberry and scotch broom. Each restoration event kicks off with a short history of the bog, information on invasive plant species, and the impact of these plants on Pacific Northwest plant and wildlife.
Following the presentation, volunteers will learn effective ways to remove non-native plants and put this knowledge to work pulling weeds and vines. Each session includes bending and digging – no experience required. Sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves are recommended.
Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, water, and snacks. These events are great opportunities to meet neighbors and make new friends.
