City Council Approves nearly $1 million in Pandemic Relief Grants

NEWS RELEASE V2 INFOGRAPHIC

On June 27, 2022, the Snoqualmie City Council approved the appropriation of nearly $750,000 in Covid-19 relief grants to community organizations and small businesses. These grants will provide support as local nonprofits and businesses continue to recover from the significant financial impacts resulting from the two-year pandemic.

These community relief grants were funded by $1.9 million in federal ARPA funding the City received from the U.S. Department of Treasury. In April, the City Council approved resolution 1614, which established the Small Business and Community Organization Support Program and also earmarked $200,000 to support Snoqualmie individuals and households suffering from pandemic related financial hardships, which will be distributed by a local social service organization.

“We are thrilled to have this latest community grant appropriation approved by the City Council,” said Mayor Katherine Ross. “The ARPA Council Committee worked for many months to establish the eligibility and scoring criteria to ensure equitable grant distribution. We know our local businesses and organizations have waited for this financial boost and believe this support will benefit not only the recipients, but also our local economy.”

The City expects to begin distributing this new round of local pandemic relief grants in the coming weeks.

SnoValley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kelly Coughlin said, “Thank you to the City of Snoqualmie. Working closely with local businesses, I continually see the struggles they face. Record level inflation and staffing shortages, on top of significant pandemic revenue losses, make survival difficult. These grants show our small businesses they are valued and play an important role in a thriving local economy.”
