Traffic Alert: More Lane Closures Coming to I-90 between Preston and Issaquah for Pavement Repairs

News & Announcements Posted on March 28, 2023

**UPDATE: This news release has been update once again on Friday, May 5, 2023.  Be advised: WSDOT has NOT delayed the repairs on westbound I-90 scheduled for May 5-8, as was stated earlier this week via the WSDOT Facebook page. Those repairs are back on for the May 5 weekend.**

Snoqualmie drivers should expect more delays on I-90 near Preston for between April 30 and May 8 as the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) continues pavement repairs on bridge decks east of Issaquah.

This is continuation of work performed in late summer 2022, and most recently, April 2023, that caused significant traffic delays for local drivers between Issaquah and Snoqualmie.

When and Where
Multi-day lane reductions on eastbound  I-90 east near Preston start Sunday, April 30, 2023, and then westbound lane closures just east of Issaquah happen May 5-8.  During both pavement repair projects, I-90 will be reduced to one lane 24/7.

Eastbound I-90 Lane reductions happen about 1 mile east of the Preston interchange:

  •  10 pm Sunday, April 30 through Wednesday, May 3 at 7 am

Westbound I-90 Lane reductions just east of the Issaquah Highlands interchange:

  •  10 pm, Friday, May 5 through Monday, May 8, at 5 am

Final bridge work delayed! According to WSDOT, pavement repairs planned for the westbound I-90 bridge deck - about 3½ miles west of the Preston interchange - are being rescheduled because it may take longer than the pair of four-day lane reductions originally planned. This bridge deck has deep wear over long sections with exposed rebar, which helps hold the concrete together. For these repairs, WSDOT will need the better part of a week to do the left lanes, then several more days to do the right lanes. In addition to the repairs, this work requires concrete that needs nearly two days to cure. These repairs will most likely occur in June or July, but not exact dates are yet scheduled. Watch for future updates.
