The Snoqualmie Police Department continues work to reinstate the School Resource Officer (SRO) position that was put on hold as of September 3, 2024, due to staffing constraints within the department.
“Filling the SRO position remains our top priority,” commented Snoqualmie Police Chief Brian Lynch. “We understand the crucial importance of the on-site SRO when it comes to ensuring the safety and security of Snoqualmie Valley School District students, staff, and faculty.”
Current steps the Snoqualmie Police Department is taking to fill the SRO position:
- Recruitment of a full-time, lateral School Resource Officer, which is currently underway.
- Daytime patrol officers at Mount Si High School each school day.
- In approximately two months, SRO Gutwein will return to his position in light duty capacity following medical leave for a work-related injury. During this time, he will be in plain clothes, working as a liaison between the department and the school district.
Ask Questions at Upcoming Chat with the Chief
On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, during this month’s Chat with the Chief event, Snoqualmie and North Bend residents have two opportunities to ask Police Chief Lynch questions related to the SRO position and other public safety topics.
Chief Lynch will be available at Arete Coffee Bar in North Bend, 112 West 2nd Street, from 9-10 am, and also at the Snoqualmie Parkway Starbucks (next to MOD Pizza), from 5:30-6:30 pm.
“The past four years have been challenging times for officer recruitment across our region, but the Snoqualmie Police Department is committed to having a presence at Mount Si High School and providing law enforcement services to any school within its jurisdiction. We look forward to reinstating our school resource officer as soon as possible,” said Snoqualmie Police Chief Lynch.
