The City of Snoqualmie is consistently focused on sustainability, enlisting the support of partners with this goal. This summer, longtime sustainability partner, Waste Management (WM), joined the efforts with ten WM Recycle Corps interns working to educate the Snoqualmie community on recycling and waste reduction.
The WM Recycle Corps program is rooted in community partnerships, professional development, and delivering results for waste reduction and recycling. It’s the first of its kind in the waste industry and the winner of the Gold Excellence Award – one of the highest honors in the recycling industry – from the Solid Waste Association of North America. This program works to develop leaders who work for a sustainable tomorrow.
This summer, the Recycle Corps interns provided recycling education to hundreds of commercial businesses, apartments, and condos in Snoqualmie. WM Recycle Corps interns focused their messaging on assistance to improve the quality of recycled materials and programs. The interns emphasized the three C’s – convenience, clarity, and capacity – to advise businesses about best recycling practices. The three C’s ensure waste sorting is convenient by co-locating containers, clear by applying instructional decals and ensuring the correct container color, and at proper capacity by right-sizing containers.
This summer, the Recycle Corps interns also joined the City at Big Truck Day and at the annual Snoqualmie Firefighters Pancake Breakfast. Keep an eye out for them next year to get your recycling and waste-related questions answered at the Recycle Right® booth.
Help the City with our sustainability goals: recycle your plastic bottles, jugs and tubs; keep food and liquid out of your recycling container; and keep plastic bags and bagged recyclables out of your recycling.
