Snoqualmie, WA – The Snoqualmie Police Department is moving forward with a Police Narcotics K-9 Program to increase awareness of illegal drug use and enhance community safety in the cities of Snoqualmie and North Bend.
“A K-9 Program will not only result in an increased number of narcotics arrests, but will also inform the community about the dangers of illegal drug use,” said Police Chief Perry Phipps.
The program, which was unanimously approved by the Snoqualmie City Council, will be funded through donations. Officers Miller and Fischbeck both played a key role in researching the program, which Chief Phipps will oversee.
Starting early next year, the Police Department will determine an officer to serve as a dog handler. The officer in this role will continue to work patrol in addition to enforcement of illegal drug activities. The dog will also serve as a community resource. When not on duty, it will live at the officer’s residence.
The search for a dog, which may be any number of breeds, is ongoing at organizations specializing in service dogs for patrol and narcotic detection.
