Freezing Rain Graphic

For immediate release: December 22, 2022

Mayor Issues Emergency Proclamation

Snoqualmie Mayor Katherine Ross issued an Emergency Proclamation for an upcoming winter storm to authorize preparedness to protect residents. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Dec. 22 at 4 pm through Dec. 23 at 7 pm with high winds and a heavy precipitation mix that includes snow and freezing rain. Due to the wind chill and anticipated slippery road conditions, residents are encouraged to stay inside Friday and to avoid driving. Snow is forecast later Thursday afternoon, with freezing rain forecast overnight and Friday morning.

 City Snow and Ice Response

City crews are preparing plows for the storm and will respond based on the Snowplow Map and the Snow and Ice Plan – learn more at Crews will address snowplow requests from the public, but for their safety will not respond until after the storm. If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1.

 Power Outages

Power outages and downed trees are possible with this storm. Avoid downed trees, as power lines can be hidden under branches. If you see a downed powerline, avoid it and call Puget Sound Energy (PSE) at 1-888-225-5773. In the event of a power outage, keep BBQs outside and ventilate backup generators to avoid CO poisoning. PSE also posts area outages and response times.

 Preparedness Tips

  • Sign Up for City Emergency Alerts.
  • Follow City social media channels.
  • Park in your driveway for optimal plowing.
  • Give snowplows extra space to work.
  • Use caution while outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep these items in your car.
