[ARCHIVED] Mt. Si Senior Center Needs Bolstering during COVID-19 Response

This is an image of the Mt. Si Senior Center logo.

The Mt. Si Senior Center, located in North Bend, serves seniors living in Snoqualmie, North Bend, Fall City, and surrounding areas. Due to the coronavirus and COVID-19 Stay Home, Stay Healthy order by Governor Inslee, the senior center is temporarily closed.

During this time of crisis, volunteers and staff are providing 200 Meals To Go each week to seniors through curbside pick-up and delivery. These are a substitute for meals they usually enjoy during the lunch hour at the senior center when it is open. Some seniors do not have the ability to cook their own balanced meals and do not have family members in their households to assist.

Staff and volunteers also reach out to 432 senior households each week to check-in, hear about their needs, and make resource referrals or connections on their behalf. These calls are a method to alleviate social isolation, which is greatly affecting seniors. A friendly phone call from one of the staff or volunteers at Mt. Si Senior Center makes a big difference.

Grant funding covers some of the expenses for Meals To Go and wellness checks, but the center is experiencing a significant difference between income and expenses compared to its usual operating budget. This is seriously impacting the center’s finances now and will make it difficult to return to their full services in the future. Unfortunately, at the same time, its regularly scheduled fundraisers have had to be cancelled.

To fill the gap, the Mt. Si Senior Center has started the “Spring Into Action: Support Our Seniors” campaign open for donations to support current crisis services and ongoing offerings throughout the year.

If you are a senior in need of assistance, please find information about the Mt. Si Senior Center and other services at www.lovesnoqualmievalley.com.

The City of Snoqualmie provides financial support to the Mt. Si Senior Center through Human Services allocations and encourages others to do the same to the extent they are able.
