[ARCHIVED] City Crews Prepare for Snow and Ice; Snow Removal Ordinance Takes Effect

This is a picture of a snowman with a snow shovel.

The National Weather Service forecasts 6-8 inches of snow in the cascade foothills, including Snoqualmie, beginning early morning on Thursday through the weekend.

City of Snoqualmie crews are prepared to plow and de-ice around the clock as needed for the safety of the community and accessibility for police, fire, and emergency medical services.

Residents can assist with keeping roads clear by moving cars into driveways and clearing storm drains of debris before and during snowfall when safe to do so.

Snoqualmie’s snowplow route classifies streets based on street function, traffic volume, and importance to the welfare of the community. The snowplow route and snow removal plan are posted on the city website.

A new City of Snoqualmie ordinance approved on January 25, 2021 requires property owners to make all reasonable effort to clear snow and ice on sidewalks adjacent to their homes or businesses to maintain safety and accessibility for pedestrians of all abilities. This is required within 48 hours of snow accumulation.

This regulation does not apply to seniors or those who are physically unable to clear snow and ice. It is hoped that family, friends, or neighbors would assist keeping sidewalks clear for those who need help.
